Re: VHF radio info for the tuna/kingy chasers

If you get a VHF with DSC then you need a licence to register a MMSI.

Hitting the Distress button on the VHF will identify you and send your position if the VHF has a GPS or is attached to a GPS.

Re: A very lucky man

We used to dive the Prom regularly. You’d hear people standing at Tidal River saying “it’s lovely and calm” but looking at the horizon it was jagged. As soon as you leave the sheltered area things can get pretty challenging even in a decent boat. Is there a VHF coast station in the area that will pi...

That's the one. Great value. Works well off 10 Aldi AA rechargables or a Li-ion pack.

Happy with the Garmin Striker in the Revo. BCF have them on special from time to time.

Hobie Sport hull shape change - when?

I'm looking at selling the Outfitter as finding willing crew members isn't as easy as it was (kids growing up etc etc) and getting a Sport. We had a 2008 Sport so I know it will be tight but great fun and easy to load on the 4WD by myself. An Outback would be better in many ways but not a lot smalle...

Re: cup holder sounder, transducer question?

Fully submerged at speed and and at rest, and not in any turbulent water (that may introduce air).

If you have the transduce mount attached to the hull with magnets (search for the write up of my Outfitter version) then running aground isn't an issue.

Re: Cupholder sounder & GPS mount

An old post but a goody. Like others I haven't seen it before. I love this magnet idea. Do they rust or corrode or lose their strength over time in any way? Thanks, aj The magnets themselves don't rust but they seem to attract tiny bits of metal from somewhere with resulting tiny rust marks. Nothin...

Not at all. I've had it come off when I went through a clump of seaweed but otherwise no problems.

Re: Cupholder sounder & GPS mount

The magnets were about 20 - 25mm from memory. Like these ones: http://aussiemagnets.com.au/product/-20mm-x---5mm-Disc-%28Rare-Earth%29.html Aussie Magnets has specials from time-to-time so pick something with similar pulling power that's cheapest. I found it a bit tricky to glue them in place where ...

Re: Roll It Over, Lay Down and Get Back In - PA Re-Entry

Thanks Darren for a good video as always. I had Andy in his Sport with me in the Outfitter practising down at Yerung River (Cape Conran) last summer. Need to do it again in a bit of swell this time. Tipping the PA seemed easier than I expected it would be. Was it? (compared with the Revo (or was it ...
