yep, got mine insured as specified 'portable' item with a fixed value just added to contents insurance, i think it was a bout $15 a month extra. It is covered if stolen from anywhere(home/campsite/on the road), damaged in a car accident, etc. It is not covered while in use, but this was a grey area ...
