Re: What SCUBA gear do yak divers have/use

As a qualified instructor/cave diver I can assure all of you that certification is not so that operators can get money from you ITS TO STOP YOU FROM COMMITTING SUICIDE! Any one can jump in the water and dive under the surface but what about decompression illness, decompression times, lung injuries a...

Re: Mother Nature has no master.

Thanks heaps for posting details about your day. Just goes to prove again that the use of a mobile phone is NOT for marine use. The emergency services are always telling boaters DO NOT USE A MOBIL PHONE FOR EMERGENCY SITUATIONS. Sure they can be helpful and I am glad to see that it was a good result...

Re: New Sounder

Thanks for the comments guys. Will certainly use a drift anchor more than a fixed one. The red ropes are "attached" to the Kayak via a webbing strap looped around the body of the kayak then to a shackle that has a pulley attached. In the rafters I have two more pulleys and the red rope fee...

Re: Do you use a PLB or EPIRB (either one)?

Please check the AMSA website for more information on both PLB & Epirb. Epirbs are registered to a user and the vessel and are used for Marine . Required by all vessels going 2nm offshore or more. Where as PLBs are for individuals and can be used inland, lakes, rivers, 4wd trips, bush walking, e...

Re: Epirbs and PLBs

Just be a little careful when buying PLB's. Some are not actually waterproof unless you have their own "lifejacket" nor do they float. Make sure you get one that does float and is waterproof and make sure it is GPS equipped , the difference in search area between non GPS & GPS equipped...

Re: Thinking of selling my Yak due to Safety

Why not invest in a personal PLB? They float, are waterproof, not expensive and they alert the authorities something is wrong, quickly. Set off in and around Melb will get a very quick response, especially if you go with the GPS version. For around $300 it is almost a must for all Kayakers heading o...
