4.9m Glass Add On

Well I’m still a Hobie man but I wanted something to use for upper body work & some distance training so picked up a nice 4.8m Glass yak, weighing around 24Kg’s.
Took it for test this morning pushing into a building 8-10K wind & it was no problem, although I still need to adjust the seat position & the Rudder Control footplates.
Tracks nicely although my PA14 with modded Rudder turns better/sharper.
So if Eoin or Stephen etc have some tips to improve the turn I’d be happy to take some advice :D (Guess just get better with my edging skills ;) )
Thanks
Not sure if I’ll fish from it, What do you think?

Put it on its edge this adds to rocker or effectively reduces the water line length Look up edging a kayak on YouTube there are a few tips there

A sit in is a lot easier to edge. Fit a skirt if you really want to push it. Kayaks turn by drifting/sliding the stern around, pivoting from the nose, so a rudder actually brakes this action especially at lower speeds.. Practise as much as possible without using rudder and research various paddle strokes such as sweeps, stern and bow rudder. This is a whole sport in itself. Once you get the hang of these combos you will be surprised just how responsive and manoeuvrable it is. Keep in mind the rudder is meant for straight tracking in cross winds rather than turning, which can be done more effectively with it up. Think of white water kayakers that are required to be nimble and rudderless.

Thanks for the replies Stephen & Keith.
I plan to do lots of practicing. Got a neoprenes skirt so hopefully I don't fil the tub up :D
Heading to lake Tyers after Christmas so will take that with me instead of the PA (which got a bend rod last time I was there from hitting a sand bar).
I'm toying with fitting a few rod holders behind the seat but I'm not confident in heading off the surf in it just yet so I may wait till I have some more skills (I am itching though to give it a run in the sea).
