Thought I would share my rod holder that I made up for my eBay yak, makes drifting for flathead easy with a drift chute out, and means when I am anchored my rods go out each side and sit nicely. Certainly beats the original set up of having the rods sitting on top of each other.
I've had this set up now for probably 4 trips and I love it, certainly makes knife access easy and being in a cheap yak, storage is always a tough spot.
All I did was make the shape from 20mm PVC then drill out the bottom of the two front mount on the console. As you can see in one of the photos the black console is actually not a part of the yak so no drilling into the hull required.
Drilled a few holes in the pipe here and there to accommodate different tools.
Apologies for the giant pictures. My resizing capabilities are below average.

How sturdily is that hatch lid attached its going to have a lot of leverage on it?
How does it go with long butt rods?
Cetainly looks neat. A marvel what people can do with a bit of pvc plumbing.

Yeah, that was my first concern too with the added height V's the original holders that come with the kayak, it doesn't show it particularly well in the photo's but that console is fitted to the kayak, which is then held down by two straps, a front one and a back one, with the rod fully loaded, it doesn't even lift the back end against the strap, so no dramas there.laneends wrote:How sturdily is that hatch lid attached its going to have a lot of leverage on it?

Long but rods would be a problem, luckily, I don't own any, and until you can make them out of PVC I probably wont
I stole the idea from a Yak facebook page but the bloke that was making them was making them from stainless steel, and waaaaay too tall, also wanted $60 without rod holders, which I wasn't going to spend. Glad I fiddled around for a while till I got something I was happy with.
Unfortunately no videos of it in action yet.
