G'day,
After one outing on my first kayak I decided I needed an extra kayak trolley.
With just one trolley, my 1km trek to the water meant lifting the bow handle and pushing The Beast.
Sore arms, back and concern about the strain on the handle led me to make this:
The wheels and axle are from my hand trolley. The other parts cost me $22.35.
Works well, easily stores in my gator hatch, alleviates the above mentioned problems, and makes the yak look like a F1 car when in transit.
Cheers.

Post a picture of the beast on 4 wheels BKA.
Well past the edge, almost at the point of no return.

Leerve it! Can you sit in it and make the front wheels steerable?

LOL, interesting concept. The world's most expensive billy cart.Bozzie wrote:Can you sit in it and make the front wheels steerable?
However, sitting on the suspended super-linear polyethylene might turn it into a banana boat.
Could be a fun & easy way to take your kids to the beach though.
Cheers.

Not recommended this is the best way to crack the scuppers.Bozzie wrote:Leerve it! Can you sit in it and make the front wheels steerable?
Nice idea , by any chance did you try placing the original trolley closer to the center of the yak, that also helps reduce the weight on the bow.

Re: Extra kayak trolley
G'day, the original trolley only fits snuggly towards the stern. As all my gear is sitting in the bow gator hatch, that increased my lifting strain. My current prototype works fine but I plan to eventually make some additional enhancements for Stage 2 by selling the original trolley, lowering the home-made trolley & adding a 45 degree support, and constructing a new triangle trolley for the stern. Both trolleys will then sit in the scuppers and, using PVC cross pipes, the front one will incorporate a slot for a tie-down and the back one will incorporate two slots for tie-downs. Most of the extra gear weight will then be directly above the front trolley. The raised stern will be at arms length for easy pushing. And to turn corners, I just slightly lift the stern handle to get the back wheels off the ground. Some may think this is overkill but wheeling the yak 1km to the Bay is my primary means of transportation so I need to get it perfect. Anyhow, here's a crappy picture I just made of my Stage 2 prototype: Cheers.GoneFishn wrote:by any chance did you try placing the original trolley closer to the center of the yak, that also helps reduce the weight on the bow.

Re: Extra kayak trolley
Stage 2 completed. Built from the scuppers up with original plans abandoned along the way. Here's the finished look.
Runs smooth and true.
Lift the stern handle a mm or so and the front then turns on a dime.
Now for some calm weather...
Cheers.

Unstrap the trolleys:
Fold up for storage:
And store in Gator Hatch:
Whole process takes less than a minute. Runs smooth and true.

Love it, now one of those annoying little mini bikes that were all the rage a few years ago, coupling hooks and you're all set!
