My opinion on Trout and Salmon as Food

Caught anything lately? Post up how you cooked it here and if it was a success. Doesn't only have to be fish....

Depending on what a trout eats changes it's taste.
Trout that dine mainly on insects don't taste as good as ones that eat mainly other fish and yabbies.
And trout taste yum if cooked properly
I survived the June 2012 Vyak server crash, just.

I don't fish in puddles for this exact reason....trout and salmon taste like crap. Years ago I caught 2 Quinnat and 2 Rainbow in Bullin Merri, took them home and cooked 1 of each, no one in the family liked them so I cut the rest up for cat food, the two cats walked over, sniffed it and walked off........they won't even eat the crap. I will on the other hand eat the odd Redfin.
Cheers Gary...

I have to agree on the salmon. Most of my fishing has been fresh water so I have always liked a feed of trout.
I have done a lot of high country camping over the years and during winter before they put a season on them there was nothing better than a spin in a frosty morning stream, Its a good way to wake up after drinking a slab the day before. A feed of trout by the fire for brekkie dose it for me.
How about Black Fish, they hardly get a mention now days and thats a better tasting fish than Trout imho

I work at a trout farm and our main customers, are well...Asians. But remembering they put so much crap with there food you cant even taste the fish! Brook Trout taste absolutely awesome, and I prefer browns over rainbows! Wild caught fish are better but the farmed fish from us dont taste that bad! Nothing wrong while camping chucking a trout on the fire mmm! And smoked is just amazing!
Cheers Mitch

Jenko, I chuckled with laughter when you mentioned the cats turning their noses up, I can totally relate to that, it's hilarious.

Hey Kads, you reckon BASA are bad, at least they are from a fast flowing river, which tends to was the S#!^ out of the pens pretty quickly. Eating the Asiasn farmed prawns are even worse, I have been advised that they farm em in poo ponds, and they are included in a lot of fast food and instant food.

Zulu Jack, your last comment was a classic, 10 points for a top come-back

Mekong River wasn't a fast flowing river when I last saw it, at least around saigon.
