Yakkas - ok on the chew!

Caught anything lately? Post up how you cooked it here and if it was a success. Doesn't only have to be fish....

Yakkas - ok on the chew!

Post by maverick »

Grabbed a couple of yakkas and cowenyoung on Sunday, skinned and filleted them, just to test eat them.

Plan is to throw some in a curry later in the week, but tested a couple of bits in the frying pan tonight. I enjoyed them, not quite as strong in flavour as Salmon and they fried up beautifully. Well worth the effort, so if you catch some bigger ones, I believe they are well worth the cleaning, no more effort than a whiting.

Are they similar to a Trev in taste?

Yes, similar but with a reddish flesh. I only skinned then because I was too lazy to scale them and the lumpy bits near the tail disappear when they are skinned.
