First kayak

Post by Stevep »

Hi I am new to yak fishing have paddled for years but recently got interested in fishing from a yak . I have a 2monks double which is stable but slow would like a single for fishing in pub. Don't have the budget for a hobbie limit about 800 for a bare boat. I have paddles off anchor etc. any advice of what to look for and where to look?

Check ebay for secondhand models, also facebook seems the place to try.
Keep eyes peeled here they do pop up time to time
Or stretch the budget over time and get what you want

If you are happy just to paddle then you should be able to get a decent second hand one for your budget, but you will have to look around. If you want opinions on any examples you may see post them here. Basic new ones start around the $1000, and $1500 gets you into better ones with the best of the plastic paddle yaks over $2000.

If you want pedals you are adding $1000 for the privilege

yes but a good example of what can be found. That even comes with what looks like a carbon wing paddle too.

Gumtree is another good place to look, be specific in the search or you will get all the cheap imports then skip the top section and narrow your search to vic/and/or location.

I did see an 2014 outback for 600 with 0 bids on ebay, no pedals! In corio
https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/hobie-outba ... SwUd9adUty
Maybe i should go for it lol

Yak PBs kingfish (about this big <>>><), squid 39 cm, king george 42 cm, snapper 72 cm, gummy 122 cm, 71cm flatty (estimated ) Cobia 133cm
