Just saw it on the news, a long time missing now.
Well past the edge, almost at the point of no return.

Helicopter has been doing low slow passes along the beach around Mornington. Assumption would be that the yak would blow this way in this wind.

Apparently a Japanese National, with no life jacket or wetsuit. https://au.news.yahoo.com/vic/a/3653840 ... rne/#page1

I saw the rescue jet flying over Rye around lunch time. If the yak hadn't sunk it's a safe bet that it's down that end of the bay. I don't like his chances of staying on the yak in these conditions though:

edit: looking at the past weather I'd say conditions weren't that great at Altona on the day he set out either:

So glad I have a PLB, would have been out in the middle of PPB in no time with no one around.

Just a reminder its not only the pool toy yaks that get in trouble. A mirage drive failure in lousy conditions and you are not paddling an outback back.

Spot on there about paddling back in bad conditions. Best option would be to try and go with the weather if possible. Better to be safe on land a long way from where you started, then paddling around trying to get back.

This is very sad to hear. My thoughts are with his family and friends.
