A lot of the beach boxes in the area have cheap kayaks in them and plenty of the beach boxes are damaged at the moment. Hopefully it is kayak that has been "released" from a beach box. :?
Well past the edge, almost at the point of no return.

I think it won't be long before the cops get sick of this sort of thing happening and require some sort of registration details be put on every kayak before they are used in salt water so they can track the owners down a bit easier
Nothing attached to it, not even a seat, so it may not have been in use hopefully

I'm not entirely against this, as long as the cash goes to good kayak related use and includes education of some sort.
On the other hand maybe we should just let evolution takes its course.

I don't know that it necessarily needs to be something that is paid for, just a requirement that any kayak in salt water must have some way of easily identifying the owner. State that if fisheries or the water police etc can't see it from their boat during an inspection you get a fine. Onus would be on the owner to use a sticker or whatever that doesn't come off in water, so someone out there would start printing and selling suitable kayak stickers with your details on them pretty quickly. Name and an emergency contact number would be all that is needed to prevent the cops from having to put up media releases asking if anyone can identify kayak x.

Those stickers are already available.
MSV give them out for free and there is a bloke on the Facebook kayak pages that makes one too.

I'm not surprised, it's a good idea. They just need to make them mandatory

Exactly, which is precisely why I don't really agree with...
Vyak should be mentioned by retailers before a sale in my opinion
As someone who works at a retail level with kayaks, I do mention Vyak a lot of the time, especially when we are asked about clubs, resources, etc (same reason we have a link to it on our website). But I always preface any mention of forums with: be aware forums are opinion salads so fact-check anything you read because not everything that you stumble upon in forums is gospel. I certainly wouldn't recommend any forum I know of as a bastion of knowledge and truth, but I do recommend them as a good place to start, especially for beginners who want to meet like-minded people

Good on you josh. Doing above and beyond what is required, yet noting that not all that is published here is gospel.
Couldn't want more from a retailer I spose without law requiring more from you
