Main thing to work out is if you want a 14 or a 12 and if a 14 if you want the newer vantage seat version. You will find plenty of each option available either here, gumtree or facebook. With secondhand you will often pick up plenty of accessories (sounder, rod holders, pfd, trailer etc) that makes it much better value. Your budget will also dictate a lot with older 14's around $2.5k depending on accessories and newer models around $3.5k up. Personally I'd recommend going a 14 for the extra utility and stability. The newer vantage seat models will depend on budget but don't discount an older model with an upgraded seat if you want a cheaper compromise.

Rob as a guide I sold my 2012 PA 14 loaded with accessories including lights, fish finder, rod holders, anchor, and big beach wheel set etc for $2300 (Pre vantage seat). Definately go 2nd hand and remember the time to setup and accessories add up very quickly so as Shane said get one already done. Think about how you are going to mount it as well. I still have my trailer for sale.

With the wheels the hard wheels will be near impossible to drag over sand. The soft beach wheels which come in 2 sizes make a difference. The larger being easier of course.

yeah keith no yak. I think I'm going to regret the fact I've sold the yak. But at the moment I'm loving my boat. hitting spots I wouldn't normally cover. Not looking forward to the ramps in snapper season though. My trailer can beach launch so stuff the ramps in peak periods. I love my night fishing and bit more security on the boat. Last week was out and whilst nice wind picking up SE and as you know at campbells cove any SE wind can be unpleasant. Boat wasn't an issue.

If I get another yak which one day I will probably will. Will go paddle and something very simple as long as it's stable and super easy to store and get out on as will not be my primary means of fishing. Something like a kingfisher or cobra fish n dive.
