Sog might know a bit about it.......>

I was talking to mate at the boat ramp tonight. His Dad and brother were out last night near the cardinal and saw the guy come passed. Sometime later he got into trouble and had to be rescued by a boatie.
My mates Dad and brother were later abused by the boatie for not lending assistance, although they had no idea that there had been an issue.

I believe the kayaker involved was pulled from the water by a boat and met at the ramp by an ambulance.
I have heard no other details.
I was at the ramp just after it happened and didn't mention it last night until I had more info.
I don't think anyone has put their hand up on social media yet, so we probably won't find out what happened.

When I fish the southerly at Altona, I always check the observations page for Fawkner beacon.
Be aware that if its been blowing over 13 knots for a couple of hours, the chop has had time to build up.
So there is a difference between 10 knots building to 13, which some will find ok, than 13/ 14 knots blowing for 3 hours, in which case I probably wouldn't go out.
Having checked what conditions were last night, I'd say it was too rough to be out in my opinion.

When I was out Saturday just gone someone went turtle but managed to get back on with not to much fuss.
Obviously has practiced. Not sure who it was he was a fair distance from us but we where ready to get over there asap if the first attempt failed.

A police friend tells me of two yakkers rescued today, one off Altona and one off Werribee Sth
The one at Altona fell out and couldn't get back in. Werribee sth he was out to far and was trying to paddle back in for a couple of hours but couldn't, wind was to strong for him. Both clearly not experienced enough

I was out apex this morning, blowing its tits off..not a day for novices. I wouldn't have had the quest out there, way windier than forecast this morning, Would have struggled to paddle against that.
