Hi guys,

I don't know if there's any truth to this but I'm hearing rumours over here that the Victorian fisheries is about to introduce a tag / annual quota system for recreational fishermen for Southern Bluefin Tuna, my understanding is along the lines of each rec fisherman is only allowed 6 tags per year.

Do any of you guys know anything about this?

Dave

If none of you guys have heard anything it's probably just a rumour. :yahoo:

I was just a bit suprised to hear it as over here in SA all us rec fishers look at what you Victorians have been doing as best practice and what we want our fishery managers to start doing.

I haven't heard of it and doubt it would proceed without plenty of consultation anyway. I assume it would be just for kept fish as well. I've had a good year but I don't think I've kept more than about 6-8 fish. It should also depend on size. The schoolies this year have been small, whereas 6 barrels is a lot of fish.

Regarding tags, they've just introduced a tag system for recreationally caught crayfish so it could be way they will manage high value species in future.
