Blairgowrie spearing PICS INCLUDED

Post by Reel obsession »

Went for a quick kayak based spear on the reefs offshore from Blairgowrie. Ended up with some really good sized squid, octopus (around 4kg) and a gurnard (which I've never seen in the bay before) all cooked ups treat and was a ripper day out on the water

Sounds like a great day out on the water.
First & only time I saw a gurnard in the bay was at Portsea pier.

have fun with the occy? i've shot one once a long time ago and remember having trouble getting it off the spear and onto stringer. then preparing them was another ordeal all together.

Yeah was a bit of a handful, but when introduced to the knife..... The cleaning process was ok, just involved skinning the tentacles and removing the suckers. Then a quick bash with the meat tenderiser then chopped and into a stir fry. Was fantastic
