Well I slide down to Altona and caught up with the Sea Sherpa man at Millers Rd this arvo for a little road test of his new sports car of the kayak fishing world a Stealth Profisha 525
Chenski also came down for a paddle
Anyway even Eoin hadn't got the yak wet yet so I jumped on his heavy fat Fisha 500 ( yer right these are damm sweet to ) while Eoin jumped on the 525 .We paddled out a bit and a bit of pedal adjustments got us both more comfortable we headed out into a 8 - 10 knot wind
compared to my prowler 4.3 which is not a slow kayak , god damm it these glass yaks move well with so little effort
first thing noticed is the 525 has less buoyancy at the bow that the fisha 500 and would dive more though waves ( it not a problem but there is a difference here )
after getting out wider it was time to swap and of cause a deep water change over ( could have picked warmer water ) so I had to tip the yak up the right way and get on
both operations were easy enough I was surprised how stable a 61 cm wide kayak could be to remounted - I however would like to do a few more remounts to get use to where handles and things are
Another pedal adjustment and for me this kayak was instantly more comfortable on the longer skinnier yak
at 5.25 meters long and 61 cm wider you would think these things would be unstable but again it's a surprise like any glass ski it feel a little tippy at first till just off vertical and the secondary stability is rock solid
So how do the paddle like a dream it takes very little work to get moving quite quickly and again light work to keep it moving well
Final thoughts were what colour do they come in , cos I wont one ! and that's the truth
Basically Eoin has the go head to get one in for me - we just have to see what colours are in stock at kayak specialists in QLD

Re: thoughts on the Stealth Profisha 525
I've had to look at that boat in the garage every morning this week getting into the car for work knowing I wouldn't get it on the water until at least today. But bloody hell it was worth the wait. Love it and as much as I love the Fisha, I think there will be a new first cab off the rank at my place at least for spots I won't be anchoring. As Cheater said you definitely notice the less volume up front especially with waves rolling up the deck but the trade off is the lack of effort to push it along. I much prefer paddling skis in sloppy water than on glassed out water and really enjoyed the paddle even if the water was a little cold for re-entries. I'll be swimming again for a safety course next weekend and I don't think the water temp will rise much between now and then. Have school camp Mon to Wed but hopefully Thursday or Friday will be good for a before work troll out to P3.

I dont think the PF525 is a good idea cheater, its going to make it near impossible for me to out paddle you if you're in one of those speed machines

It would be an interesting race between a ProFisha and a Toura 17 we'll have to organise it when they come inJordo wrote: one of those speed machines

Is the reduced bouyancy in the nose to help it cut through waves rather than bobbing over them?
I think thats the theory with the AI and revo 16

Re: thoughts on the Stealth Profisha 525
Yeah it's also a side effect that it is designed for speed over stability whereas the Fisha is the other way around. That's not to say the Profisha is unstable or that the Fisha isn't fast, it's just the order of priorities for the designers.laneends wrote:Is the reduced bouyancy in the nose to help it cut through waves rather than bobbing over them?

I think I need to get off my arse and organise this test paddle with you Eoin, but this could also be a dangerous move for the bank balance too.
