Aldi 47" HD, LCD TV....$799

Post by Digger »

I got a phone call from a mate this morning to say that Aldi had a terrific special on TVs this week. Now we had discussed this before and had agreed that 42" was big enough but when he saw this he went straight in and bought one. I was looking at a Samsung as our 32" is that brand and it's a great TV, just not full HD nor quite big enough.

So I went and bought one. Tomorrow we have to find a table to suit it and in the meantime it's working here in my study and after some individualising it looks really good. I find that the quality of the picture is more to do with how you set it up than anything else and this looks great after a few tweaks.

I figure we have saved $500 0n what we were intending to buy and that will cover most of the cost of a new table/cabinet. Hopefully we can get something back for the corner unit our current TV is on.

There is a 2 year warranty and as per all Aldi products you can return it for a full refund within the first couple of months.

Posted in case anyone else is in the market.

Hey Diggers, nice find mate, any idea of it's power usage ?

Sorry you have been crook cobber, been out of the loop a bit and just read late last night, hope all is getting better and that you don't have to get out of the Yaks.
My Old Man had his two big toes amputated and had bad vertigo after that, struth that's a while back, any sort of connection, anything they can do?

I hear you aren't too flash either Ed, hope that you are making some progress now at least. As to Meneures, there isn't a lot they can do but I have an appointment with a good ENT specialist Monday week so see what he has to say. The GPs really don't have the specific knowledge that is needed with things like this and there are new drugs coming on stream all the time so I guess we will soon know what to expect.

I'm a pretty tough old bugger so it will probably be alright mate.

Hey Bilby how can you fit a 52" TV on the PA as well as the side by side fridge freezer and the porta potti? You tow a barge right?

Thanks for the laugh.

P.S. Missed the bit about the power usage but I recall something on the box about energy efficiency but don't remember the numbers, and the box is up in the shed. If I get time tomorrow I'll have a look and add it to this post.

Hey Digger,
I bought a 46" about 1 year ago for, then, the best price of $990. It is the best buy ever. The secret is that there is only a couple of LCD panel manufacturerd (the Bauhn is LG) so, the difference is in the processor, and the software. The responce can vary imencely between manufacturers. My Aldi (bauhn) has been terrific. Best buy, without a doubt. I've mounted mine on the wall. Hidden all the cabled behind the wall and run a Xbox 360, Sony Bluray disk player, Nintendo Wii, and Sony 7.2 sound system into it.... Love it.

That's interesting Boz,

I had a feeling that screens about this size were closer to the grand at Aldi so it really is a good buy. I have it here in the study until I can get a cabinet (hopefully this morning) and pull the other out and set this up. Looking at it now I'm pretty happy with the picture although I did experiment with the settings quite a bit to get the skin tones I wanted. The response time is only 5 ms but then what can I expect for this money?

With Austar and a Mystar box it's always a bit tricky getting things set up and I have an amp and speakers to go on too, plus a DVD player.I usually manage with the mandatory wringing of hands and swearing....chuckle. Mrs Digger keeps well clear at such times, and I reckon I must really be getting old as these things used to be easy. I might bring the DVD player into the study with the old TV and pick up a blueray player, not that I have ever seen one work. May as well get it all up to date though!

I know there's only a couple of panel manufacturers but didn't know this was from LG. Would have preferred Samsung but not at twice the price. Still it looks pretty good even in a small room and sitting on the floor....should be great in our family room. Even if we have to sit on the kitchen bench to get far enough away from it to watch comfortably...lol. It's a big muvva!

Cheers mate.

New TV cabinet arrived this arvo and TV, Austar & DVD installation went like clockwork....worked 1st time!!

Looking at the TV at the right height and in a bigger room it is amazingly good for the money. I really don't know why you'd pay more than this.
