With these type of lures your trying to represent a dying baitfish, so i find the nitro style jig head (looks like the bow of a boat) give these lures a darting action. The trick to any soft plastic imo, is to put a jig head on so it JUST sinks to the bottom, you don't wan't a heavy house brick that plummets to the sea bed, just as bad is a jig head that dosn't get to the bottom. I cast long and let it settle, give the rod a few sharp jerks, let it settle again. Vary your retrieve as some days the fish eat these on the drop, other days they wait untill the plastic darts off the bottom. These lures are also not bad slow trolling from a yak, but better as a cast and retrieve type lure.
