Spearing a kingy would have been awesome don't think it would have lasted to long pulling around me which would have been weighing in around the $150kg mark all kitted up!!
The seal had me a bit worried when I saw it being one of the main meals on the menu of gws! Especially be it a young playful one! Although they do say u are never more than 500m from a big shark in Aus waters (think i read that somewhere) if we were having the same amount of attacks as WA I don't believe I would go in!

They say there's one thing worse than a shark mistaking you for a seal, and that is being mistaken for another GWS at the nobbies.Digger wrote:Yeah especially when you look at the GWS breeding activities at The Nobbies.sawtell wrote:Seals, kingies. Great whites. I wouldn't be diving there hahaha
Good work on the crays! Looking forward to pictures.

Their functionality is debateable.Wizaed1 wrote:Have you thought about using one of those Shark Shields? I certainly would. They are on;y about $600
Is there any proof that they work? I've only seen period that they don't.

Had a shark shield once, I got more shocks from it then I reackon it gave out. Ended up just hanging it on the shot line at the 5m deco stop for peace of mind. Never got eaten so I suppose it works.
Well past the edge, almost at the point of no return.

Heard alot of people swear that the shark sheild attracts sharks one bloke said he had seen more sharks diving with one in one year than he had see in 20 years without however they did keep their distance!
Mav- good idea on the safety stop as that is when the mind doesn't have much to think about and bad thoughts start entering rhe mind especially when biz is bad!! At the end of the day if it's your time it's your time!!!

I hate threads where people catch crays cause I'm too bloody old to catch 'em now and can't afford to buy them.

Thanks for the post. I have every intention to have a 30m cert this time next year. Ill get done gear togeather between them and now and double up with using it for spear fishing so it gets used.
Pete's scollop dives was the clincher and your just adding to my frustrations on not being a diver yet.
In planning on keeping my Cobra Fish N Dive specifically for diving from. It's a little more practical and suited than my PA.
Great pics and nice catch enjoy, anyone game enough to take the deep dip deserves a good feed.
Think a Yak N Dive section is needed.
