curlewis yak dive

Post by blinky »

Well its my last day of holidays so I made the most of it and took the yak out for a freedive off it. I didn't even fire the gun today but had a great time. Was able to find a reef that I havn't been to for over a year and a half. The reef used to be totally covered in weed that stood up tall, and on low tide would reach to the top surface. now its almost completely bare.. I havn't dived this area for so long because of it getting smashed by the pro's. If today is anything to go by the damage is done.
I did however see a monster leatherjacket!:o leatherjackets used to be prolific as well as the flatheads here . Anyway might give it another couple of try's just to see.
Had a great time all the same and intend on yak diving more often this year.

Very nice video, good sized Zebra fish, they will take a bait. What camera was that shot on?
Well past the edge, almost at the point of no return.

Thanks, yeah they ok size for the bay. I've seen some stonkers at 13th beach. have some footage somewhere.. I have caught them before near avalon while fishing for gars. they go hard like a trevally. i cracked some urchins to see if they would feed on them but they only had a sniff. they seemed more interested in the camera than the urchins. Just shot on a panasonic lumix, one of those waterproof shock proof dealy's.

I've hooked a zebra on a soft plastic too, the old trusty pumpkin seed turtle back.

Thanks for going to the trouble of posting that Leigh.

I thoroughly enjoyed it and it took me back quite a few years. Well done!

Try to get your wife & kids in the water with you and you will have some great enjoyable family days out together.

Its on the cards for my boys when they're old enough. Missus don't swim so will have to be a "boys" thing.
