Had a nice shore dive at steels rocks in portarlington. we were spearing and freedivng. got there nice and early to have the best chance at seeing some fish and it didnt disappoint. gave my go pro its first decent workout in the salt. I had a head mount strap for it but it was a pain in the ass. couldnt get it right with the mask and everything, so i ended up holding it by hand. Landed my biggest ever fish, a conger eel of about 5 foot long. boy was that a tussle. my mate had to put a second shot in it to subdue it. didnt get that one on camera unfortunately, it was too much craziness going on to film it. had a great encounter with a friendly cuttlefish that made for great footage which was probably the highlight..
The eel was nice hot smoked. some i marinated with a korean bbq sauce and a couple others i did with salt, pepper, paprika and olive oil. only thing i dont like about the eel is the smelly slime and the bones.

Great footage Leigh I too love the cuttlefish....I wear my Go Pro on my head when I dive but I put the head band under my hood, I find it helps keep it in place better, but yes you have to fiddle to get your mask on, I find the best way was to put my mask on first and hang it around my neck then the camera then just pull my mask up from there. Pity you didn't have footage of the eel.. that would have been very interesting

Thanks for the tip merv  I'll give it a go next time.
And yes they are dusky morwongs. I take them occasionally for some philippino friends of mine. I did try a skinned fillet of one of them this time and it was ok. I've had them in the past and been disgusted by the taste. :|

Nice video Leigh,
That eel must have put up quite a struggle.
It's fascinating how the cuttle fish change colour to match the surroundings.
