Hey guys and gals,
I am getting into Yak fishing and want to know if anyone has used one of the cheap $350 yaks as thats all i can really afford.
They are just under 3m and around 80cm wide, i want it to use in PPB.
Thank you in advance or if anyone has something for around $500 which is a good buy please let me know.
Kind regards Cant wait to get out with some of you!

Pick up from Glen Waverly for free, so that would be $598
With the yaks, the more you spend, the more you get. I'd say stretch as much as you can when buying the yak, and make do with out proper rod holders until you can afford them. But that's just my 2 cents.

Make sure you read the safety sections as well before you head out. You need a PFD, not just because its law, but because it will save your life at one point or another.jamie2johnston wrote:Thank you very much!!!
Plenty of other things to read up on as well. Don't be afraid to ask questions, but some will ask you to search before you ask

Hamish is spot on there, Jamie. Alot of advice responces to your question on here in the past have been "if you cant afford a new good kayak, buy a second hand good kayak", and there is good reason for that. First of all a second hand hobie outback, is still a hobie outback, and if you decide to change yak/dont want to yak anymore they still fetch a fair bit of money second hand.hammertym wrote:Tim's got one of these

In saying that, i am happy with my kayak that from memory was around the $600 mark. If i had the spare money or patience to wait longer i wouldve gone with one of the higher end brands. I was out in some strong wind in a river in it today and pushed through it and made it back to the launch site ok. If i was in a 3m yak without a rudder it may have been a different story.
I went through melbourne kayaks (kayaks onlines melbourne outlet) and dealt with andrew, he took the time to teach me a few things and the kayak was at a competitive price.
Goodluck with choosing to buy a yak (theres so many options!)
Hopefully catch you on the water sometime
Tim
