Never fished offshore before. So EPIRB is what we need not a PLB or do you need both. I'm unlikely to come to the Portland trip but working up the courage to ask the Mrs.

Its one of those regs that probably needs to be looked at, but regs say you need an EPIRB if you go beyond 2NM even though imho a PLB is more useful to a kayaker.

Keep in mind these are the minimums required, there is no reason you can't take extra safety gear.
Well past the edge, almost at the point of no return.

I'd have to hire one. so EPIRB and PLB is what the recommendation is. I'm thinking about buying a PLB anyway.

Besides Minerva reef looks like the place to be. Wouldn't be more than 2nm offshore.

Thanks. Any particular brand of plastic stickbait?

Question, accommodation, quiet happy to share with who ever, 2nd cabin fine.
fishing area, how far are we going out, just thought it was straight out in front, less than 2kms, if not how far, not really keen to go too far at this stage, and do l NEED an epirb, rather buy a plb.

For the kingfish trip next month you could get away with not going offshore, just stay in about 13-14m or less. There are some other options available out a bt further atm though that have our attention  plenty of fishing will be done in closer though too.

Sounds like even if you don't go further out chasing kingies there is some pretty good fishing closer in.

I got a 3 pack of slug-go 9" from CA Melbourne and Eoin also mentioned a few other brands earlier.
