AI & TI racing day.

For anyone on here with an AI/TI and not on Facebook, there is a casual race day being organised (not by me) at the Frankston Yacht Club. $10 fee.

Looks like we might have a fleet of around 15 boats. I'll coordinate with FYC re details and keep you posted. Race time is typically around 1.30-2pm but I suggest we will be starting in the morning at 10 on day 1 (Oct 8th). One thing to think about is sail numbers for easy boat identification on the water. We will need to assign numbers. Ill post on this page re numbers.

If you are interested let me know and I can keep you updated, or else jump on Facebook.

Low key racing - more about learning.

Any fishing involved? I'm not that interested in sailing for its own sake.

No fishing tomorrow. You sound like Josh,

Was just thinking out aloud that it may be a good opportunity to see a few other AI's rigged and perhaps learn a little about sailing. But given how easy the AI's are to sail anyway. Jump on the Vic Hobie Island Facebook page because there is a link on there on how to right the AI if you tip it.

Have you been out on it yet?

Too windy last night and ran out of time. It's on the roof now ready to pop it in at Albert park on the way home. I'm on the Island Facebook page but I generally avoid posting much on FB.

I won't be at the sailing/racing day, I'm heading down to Port Fairy (or maybe Portland?) on Saturday instead. There's still a few barrels around and actually last year there was a lull before the real extreme barrel action kicked off from about now well into November. The majority of these were caught in just 45m of water as well. Enjoy your racing.

That's what I thought when I bought my A.I., but more often than not I find the sailing aspect for more entertaining than fishing...

I like the fact that when it is just too windy for fishing I can still go out and smash some waves. (I know, I could drive to the other side of the bay and fish in an offshore wind).

Interesting mix of AI & TI owners, some having fishing yaks they sail and others have sailing yaks they can fish from. A few of the guys are in training for a trip, sailing to Tasmania via the Prom early next year. Quite a few guys have done the Refuge Cove trip as a 1 or 2 nighter. Hopefully over summer I will get down that way and chase some Kings and other fish.

Got the casting deck finished now, so looking forward to over nighting on it at Eildon soon.
