So I made a new video I thought worth sharing with you guys. It's not directly kayak fishing related, but it is full 'o fish and it's oh so beautiful. This is a fan-made tribute to David Attenborough and the cinematographers behind The Blue Planet II. Highlights from the entire 7 hour doco crammed down into five minutes full of piscatorial eye candy. Enjoy :D

I just watched some of Blue Planet II a few days ago - amazing stuff...

I now find it very hard to motivate myself to go out and catch and kill fish...

Just like in the original Blue Planet series when they had a piece on the southern calamari breeding over the weedbeds in Tassie - couldn't bring myself to catch squid after that.

The older I get the less interested I am interested in 'catch and kill' - there's simply no need for it. Strange but true...

Mike.

Yeah, I binge watched the entire doco, which is what inspired this clip. I needed a new project and this footage is just so stunning I couldn't not do it. It is in no way intended to be preachy in a save the whales kind of a way, but I did deliberately use the most beautiful soundtrack I could think of to compliment it, because the intention was to point how beautiful ocean life is.

While I have no problem with 'catch and kill' (on the contrary, I'd be more likely to have an issue with fishing if it was all catch & release) I do have a problem with killing or even hurting animals I don't intend to take home and eat and this does weigh on my mind when it comes to fishing and it's bothered me more since moving back to Vic. I think this has everything to do with the amount of by-catch I typically hook that I had no intention of catching, from undersize bread and butter species to endless pike and coutas. More and more I'm tending to only go fishing when I'm confident that my target species is in the area at the time (I'm only really interested in kings and tuna) and as such find myself fishing less and less.

Thanks for doing that Josh.
Whilst on our yaks we are closer to this unseen world of magnificent underwater beauty that most folks have no idea about.
And they seem to forget that it's all there for us to enjoy, whilst it's still available and free.
The humble PPB has alot to offer if you take the time and to have a look. :D

Thanks Erik. Pretty sure that clip with the ray and crabs was shot from PPB. :-)

I love those Blue Planet docos. I’ve got the last episode recorded but haven’t watched it yet...sort of savouring the experience.

Cinematography and high resolution TV’s have made these shows leap ahead over all other entertainment IMHO.

We bought a 4K TV about a year ago and the difference is outstanding, providing the transmission is hi def, most FTA channels are available in HD and there is a distinct difference when watching news etc, I even bought a 4K video camera and drone but the down side is the amount of memory it chews through, 5 minutes of 4K is about 3gb.
I spent the last 4 days shifting 10 truckloads of gravel that resembled the Matterhorn over the arena we are constructing and SWMBO diligently had the drone up shooting a lot of the operation, she got all the settings right but didn't hit the record button once thinking that what she saw on the screen was being recorded.... WRONG.

Wasn't willing to infect any of this glorious professionally shot footage with some of my amateur 'hey, look I just bought my first drone' footage. I'll save that for another project ;-)
