SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING - MELBOURNE AREA
for DAMAGING WIND, FLASH FLOODING and LARGE HAILSTONES
For people in the
Inner and parts of the
Eastern,
Northern and
Western Local Warning Areas.


Issued at 12:30 pm Friday, 3 December 2010.


The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 12:30 pm, severe thunderstorms were detected on weather radar near Craigieburn, Melbourne Airport and Greenvale. These thunderstorms are moving towards the south to southeast. They are forecast to affect Footscray, Melbourne City and Preston by 1:00 pm and Caulfield, Greensborough and Williamstown by 1:30 pm.


Damaging winds, very heavy rainfall, flash flooding and large hailstones are likely.


The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Keep clear of fallen power lines.
* secure any loose objects in the vicinity of your home.
* keep away from creeks and drains.
* do not drive vehicles through flooded areas.
* stay indoors if possible.
* Avoid using the phone during the storm.
* if you are outside, avoid sheltering under trees
* listen to the radio for storm updates
* switch off your computer and electrical appliances


The next warning is due to be issued by 1:30 pm.


A more general severe thunderstorm warning is also current for parts of the Central and North Central districts.


Warnings are also available through TV and Radio broadcasts, the Bureau's website at www.bom.gov.au or call 1300 659 217. The Bureau and State Emergency Service would appreciate warnings being broadcast regularly

hmmmm have to stay home and drink beer :D ... maybe try some white water later when the street floods!


Was home yesterday arvo when it suddenly turned very nassti .... absolutely pi$$ed down, few houses lost front brick fences due to sudden massive water loads. :down:

Hail and near torrential rain has just been thru here, I was out the road and there were cars on the side of the highway everywhere it was that heavy. :shock:

Its raining like a bastard here in Mornington, saw it coming, got the rods out on the back porch for rigging and down it came!!

Flooded my local pizza shop, water was about 2 feet deep - fortunately my pizza was lovely and snug in the oven.
Well past the edge, almost at the point of no return.

Minus 2 trees and 3 sheets of tin lovingly panel beaten and reattached to roof until tomorrow. Looked like the roof had given birth. My gimp is missing from the attic also.....
