I always use a camping jigsaw mat, I attach by using a occy strap tothe kayak. This post makes me keen to adapt my bike rack to pivot.

Bought one monday from Kmart boronia, flexible laundry basket, Very flexible.

I am going through the same process, I have two diameters of conduit fitted to the posts on my scupper mounting wheels, lifting it high. this allows a greater angle before the hull touches the ground. But the carpet is probably easyer.
