Was planning to spend the day offshore from Torquay chasing Kings and Tuna then drop into Queenscliff for whiting on the way home. Cape Paterson is tempting but I like the tides better for what I had planned.

Re: A very ambitious thought... Cody banks.
Yeah, I've seen plenty of reports of tuna and kingfish through that area but in a lot closer than Cody Banks. I actually visited the ramp at Cape Paterson for the first time last Friday to check it out. I'd be keen to launch there some time but would be more likely to head around in the Coal Point d...

Re: 2023-01-Jan Westernport Solo
A lot of areas in WP have very high tidal currents and that area can be particularly bad at times. I've never caught much in the washing machine there, only salmon when passing through. Below is a map showing the relative tidal strength around WP (closer larger arrows=stronger tide). Most yaks don't...

But most rigs will do as long as the live bait is down near the bottom or at least where the snapper can find i...

Re: Sheltered spots for Saturday yakking
Saturday looks a write-off. Later Sunday afternoon looks OK, especially along the West side of WP. You could launch at Stony Point ramp and fish in close to there along the flats on the right or around the corner at Wooleys beach. High tide is around 4.15pm and I generally do well on squid with a hi...
Re: Hi all
Welcome Martin. The depths of winter aren't that inviting but there's still a few of us getting out and about.
If you've not fished of a yak much then definitely check out some of the info on here on gear, clothing techniques etc.
