Re: VHF radio info for the tuna/kingy chasers
If your radio has DSC and you have an MMSI you can make a contacts list of each others MMSIs for when you are on the water together. Link to article about the feature as used by a group of 20 sea kayakers. (no affiliation) I don't know whether this group of sea kayakers had a group MMSI for their UH...

Re: VHF radio info for the tuna/kingy chasers
I am going to make my call sign Jacko since that is my Vyak alias. My other radio will be carried by my wife on my old yak or will be kept back at shore. Not sure what the other radio call sign will be. I am not in to off shore tuna/kingy chasing yet but I decided to get two Lowrance Link-2 hand hel...

Re: VHF radio info for the tuna/kingy chasers
If you get a VHF with DSC then you need a licence to register a MMSI. Hitting the Distress button on the VHF will identify you and send your position if the VHF has a GPS or is attached to a GPS. Just completed the AWQ course so I will be applying for MMSI. I have two hand held radios and two yaks ...

Re: anchor retrieval technique in fast moving WP waters
A float is bulky and I am trying to minimise what I take out - but I think you suggestion is safest and I am thinking of taking some balloons/rubber bands out for the rare occasion when this happens I can blow up a ballnoon and tie it to my rope for retrieval later. Have a large float handy, clip i...

Re: anchor retrieval technique in fast moving WP waters
I wasn't confident in my ability to anchor in current so I asked seasherpa to give me a lesson. Eoin taught me the way Shane described. The moulded rod holder at the front of the outback with a PVC pipe (rod holder extension) stuck in it is forward enough to turn the yak around and face the current ...

Re: Which kayak to buy?
Might be able to pick up an older second hand Hobie with pedal drive for that price. X2 A lot of kayak anglers upgraded when the Hobie vantage seats were released about 2015 for the Hobie outback. There are pre 2015 Hobies with the older seat that are still good value for money and close to your bu...
