Re: Electric anchor winch mount

Needs to be powerful enough to raise an anchor yet be sensitive enough to stop if anchor snags before it tips boat over. Anchors often need a bit of tugging to free them to start them off, not sure how a winch can do this safely. You may have to manually get it off the bottom then just use a winch o...

Re: Keel Guard

We have 2016 outbacks that have had a scrape on the tip of the rear keel. Has anyone bought or made a keel guard as I can see over time this could become a problem. Thanks Best thing is to be aware of the keel as a wear point and dont drag them over hard surfaces by the nose. Its a common kayak iss...

Re: Kayak tow along - additional storage

Keith - I like that idea. Simple too. Does it work through creating drag? : Not so much drag theat holds you back but rather it dampens the ability of the rear to swing. Also when towing it is best not to attach the tow rope to the very rear of the tow boat as it can make it difficult to steer...

Re: KFDU account suspended

Its sad that forums are dying, they are are great resource for well thought out information and discussions which are used as a reference base. Unlike social media which is superficial knee jerk responses which are effectively gone once they drop off the initial radar. VYAK is still hanging in, but ...

Re: pedal drive v longer yak in the bay

unfortunately the answer is in the physics for a displacement hull ( i can't paddle fast enough to get a kayak on plane) the speed is limited by the length the formula being hull speed = 1.34x square root of the length in feet so for my old prowler 13 (4.1 M) the hull speed is ~4.9 knots maximum th...

Re: pedal drive v longer yak in the bay

A paddle does more than propel a boat it helps steer and helps with balancing and bracing. When it gets bumpy hands by your side iinstead of on a paddle can be unnerving. Grinding directly into headwind is easier for most pedalling. Pedal drive is going to add extra $1000 to price of equivalent kaya...
