Re: pedal drive v longer yak in the bay
unfortunately the answer is in the physics for a displacement hull ( i can't paddle fast enough to get a kayak on plane) the speed is limited by the length the formula being hull speed = 1.34x square root of the length in feet so for my old prowler 13 (4.1 M) the hull speed is ~4.9 knots maximum th...

Re: pedal drive v longer yak in the bay
Recently, I was chatting to a mate trying to convince him to take up kayak fishing and was talking about my limited understanding of needing a longer yak in the bay vs in a lake / river and he asked whether having a pedal drive would negate the need for a longer kayak in the bay to combat wind pick...

Re: What's so special about Grantville for gummies?
Hi All I've had a lot of luck following the tips on this forum for fishing the Grantville flats on a high tide, particularly with prawn baits. I've tried the same on the flats near the middle top end (Tooradin, Irish Jacks, etc..) with less success. Still catching gummies but Waaaaaay less. What's ...

Re: Does this only happen in the sport of kayak fishing?
Haha and on cue someone is bragging about picking up a couple of those anaconda Berkeley yaks for $100 each because the weight rating was inaccurate and it should only be rated to 90kg or something. I loved this quote to the $ 100 berkley thread If them taking on water is the only issue with them I...

Re: East PPB - Shelter from W/SW Winds
can't help you with PPB but westernport - Wooleys Beach ( between Cribb point and stony point ) with 1/2 tide and up can be muddy at lower tides - the tide runs a bit so beware of that

Pickled Pliers
I use a cheap long nose pliers for removing hooks from fish amongst other things , like probably many other here - only a few dollars a pair but being steel salt water does have it toll at times more so when you forget to to spray them with inox / RP7 or something anyway I had a pair that had seized...
