underwater springs?

Post by blinky »

shore dived a spot near portarlington on saturday and came across lots of these things in the water.i think they're natural springs. some bubbling out between rocks and others boiling up through the sand. Never seen them before and dont know exactly what they are.
Anyone know what they are?

Watch the vid in HD on youtube otherwise you cant see the haze effect coming from them.

Water goes hazy like that when salt comes into contact with fresh water. Probably just a natural spring..

I guess it is a natural underwater spring, but I would have thought others would have seen it before and the existance of this at Portarlington would be documented somewhere or known by others.

Yes looks very much like a natural spring and used to be one similar off Mt Martha.
I have a video of the springs in Ewans Ponds and you can also see the haze of the two different waters mixing; Note: Ewans is fresh and I am not sure, but the haze may be also due to mineral content or even water temp.
