6X4 TRAILER CONVERSION TO SUIT PA (finished pics )

Post by bilby »

Hi all,
I have completed the trailer mods to carry old Pus-nutz the Pro angler around on. I hve reduced the drawbar length to 600mm as 900 was a bit rediculous, i used pool noodle on the rear gate, made a cradle on the front, and a vee block at the front also, to stop the yak sliding into the subie.
Anyway all works well, i'm getting the trailer registered next Friday so i will be more legal than not. (Vic roads have very conflicting documents on "overhang" to them overhang is the distance from the centre of the axle to the rear of the tray, nothing hanging past the rear. I've made my yak hang over 300mm, so i reckon only a real mongrel with some needed revenue will be my only concern.
Material used was 65x65x6 rhs for the socket, 50x50x4 rhs for the drawbar, Haymen reece 5/8" pin.
Here are some pics, i hope you like the finished trailer.
Oh yeah, everthing is removable, so to go to a 6x4 is just a matter of removing the rear pool noodle, front cradle, and sliding in the drawbar.
Anyway heres a few pics.
Bilby.

Looks like a great idea bill. I'm going to get a tradies trailer and just put a removable support on the draw bar. I'll also take off my canopy so the pa can sit over my ute. Best thing is it's all a tax deduction. Great work mate looks excellent :D

Yeah should be ok, i know i will have to get it registered, and i can get an engineer to check it if i have to.
I will have it retracted 99% of the time and most travelling with the yak on it, will be around home, i will put it on the roof for any long distance stuff anyway.
Cheers Bilby.

no engineers report is needed as its under 4.5 tonne gross - only 4.5 T and over need eng reports
and it will need to be reg for 2 reasons its over 3 m in total lenth and its carrying a boat
if its under 750 Kg gross I dont even think it has got to in to vic roads for an inspection
there is a under 750 kg gross reg pac

Just waiting on receiving the yak, then i have to build a frame out of timber, covered in marine carpet, with a vee section up front to support the bow. I will post pics when i'm done.
Cheers Bilby.

I had a look at the Vicroads site and saw that they dont allow any overhang passed the trailer tray, front or back I hope Im wrong.
Here is the link, check it out.http://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/NR/rdonl ... n01833.pdf
