Here is the link, check it out.http://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/NR/rdonl ... n01833.pdf
Cheers Al
then about every boat trailer would be in the poo - I haven't seen to many boats with the outbourd hanging a long way past the end of the trailer
it maybe boat trailers that get around this

Hi,
I've always believed the law was that there was no more than 1mt overhang from the rear of the trailer, Over the draw bar is no problem. Its the same as a car with roofracks, thats why a lot of tradies put a unloaded trailer on the back of there ute, so they can carry 6mt long timbers and its hanging over the trailer.
I wouldn't worry but i'm going to get it registered, if you look to be doing the right thing with over hang or even a rag off the back of the yak, most cops will turn a blind eye. As cheater says, every boat trailer in Australia would be deemed unroadworthy if thats the case.
This is also another reason why i made my trailer with a retractable drawbar, i can unload the yak and retract the draw bar, so its not sitting in the carpark with a "LOOK AT ME I'M OVERSIZE" on its forehead, that way no one is none the wiser, with the yak on its hardly noticeable.
Cheers Bilby.

I think the retractable draw bar is a brilliant idea, bit cheesed off now that I didn't see your trailer before I built mine. I want to be able to carry other stuff (Signs...I'm a signwriter) that doesn't need the trailer to be the full length all the time.
Great idea.

Its 1.2 meter overhang on the back then you have to have some sort of flag and lights on it
my yaks are 500mm over back 1 meter over front had no probs registering it .Cheers Jim :)

this ia bit off topic but my job for the next couple of weeks is taking 400 mm ( 16 " ) out of the width of a low loader trailer
so it can be regoed
the old tank carrier is a bit wide for our roads - I have a big oxy so I'll keep warm today

Hi

Can you tell me are they 2 rubber rollers welded into a V ? and the block at the front is that something you bought or handmade?
How did you end up securing the pull out bar, a pin/s or bolted it?
Cheers Al

Hi
So it looks like that link i pasted from Vicroads is right , no overhang at all front or back.
So they make up this new law on the quiet so they can catch alot of people and make even more money from fines. :x
This rule seems to effect normal trailers but not boat trailers which have to have overhang because of the outboard motor.
I think the only way for us to get around this would be to register our trailers as Boat Trailers, What do you think? ;)
Cheers Al
