ELM used to use the scallop scraps for flatties and ting (I think). Would be good as a part of a cocktail bait too I reckon

Dom, the guts make great whiting and flathead bait. I have hand feed scallops to flathead as I swum around.
Lobo, watching them swim is hilarious underwater. Glad I caught a couple on video.
Keen to go again pretty soon, the quality of the scallops was very good and many hadn't spawned yet.
Also looking forward to dive for crays off the back beach this year.

Was just wondering as it is probably easier to get your bag of scallops than it is to get your bag of squid plus I am not the biggest seafood fan, I enjoy being out on/in the water and the cost associated with getting up to 100 scallops is $8 tank fill and some petrol so if the bait worked awesome on all species it would be cheaper and more cost effective to use scallop!cbarker54 wrote:Who cares they are about the best eating thing outta the bay. MAV thanks for the info, the neighbor said that he crushes up all the shells and uses it as berley and the whiting love em! Definitely be up for a Cray dive and another scallop dive!

Wondering if you have been diving for them long enough to report on the changes seen since the end of scallop dredging, and now also the plague of the northern sea star? Seen big differences in the numbers out there?

Any idea what the minimum depth you might find scallops in PPB? And would it be possible to access them free diving? Couldn't think of many things better that catching a feed of fresh scallops

Yes you can free dive for them, I think they can be found in 2 -3 m of water, in the Rye area on the sand on the bay side of the channel.
