which wire to use for led light pole

Post by choppers »

I'm sure the info is somewhere on the site but I'm still asking.
After having a dodgy light pole, I pulled it apart to find corrosion has crept a long way up my wires, turning it to a powdery substance.
Before I visit jaycar what type of wiring is best resistant to the salty environment?
Anywhere better to source such wire?
Cheers

Tinned copper wire is the best way to go, Jaycar sell 10m spools of 18AWG tinned wire for just under $5 from memory.

Maybe try some of this to give a waterproof connection too Choppers. Heat shrink is good silicone better and this stuff is a bit neater than silicone and quite flexible.

Also, i discovered a trick for keeping stuff waterproof. If you put a few dabs of hot glue under your heatshrink it will melt when you shrink. Excess will pour out the ends and it will make a good seal.

Not availiable in clear, i was doing an inline dimmer and i needed to be able to see the buttons. and this works a treat for cable in the shape of a figure 8 (or multiple cables)

I just wish i could get a gland that would work on a 5mm wall for the battery box.
