Just joined up

Post by bunyip »

Just joined and in the market for a yak, the more I look the harder it is to decide but being a stumpy 6'4" and a lightweight 130kg it's not going to be a 9 footer.
Have looked at the Pro Dace for $650 and there is a new player on the block in Mornington selling a 4m unit that looks like a stretched version of the aforementioned 3.6m.
Safety gear I have plenty of as SWMBO and myself also have a 23' trailer sailer which I can raid when needed.
Transport will be on the roof of a Nissan Navara or Hyundai Tucson, I have a set of carriers on the Navara, the collapsable 'L' type, not sure how they perform and will happily listen to advice on what to put on the 'Whispbars' on the Tucson.
Look forward to reading what is happening and planning my first outing to Powlett River when it warms up a bit to see what damage I can inflict on the local bream population.

Welcome Bunyip, have a good look around there is a lot to learn. The pro dance is one of many similar yaks around the same price point in 3.6 and 4m version. They do the job but are a a little on the heavy side. Dont forget to keep an eye out for secondhand sometimes prerigged brand yaks. Always someone upgrading.

paddling PFDs are a little different to regular ones with lower arm holes so as not to impede paddling stroke.

Thanks, I do have a PFD2 for the non existent yak and the PFD1's are RFD self inflating so no arm holes but thanks for the heads up.

Welcome aboard and what Keith said about buying a rigged second hand model.
Well past the edge, almost at the point of no return.
