G'day

Post by Magpie_Mick »

Been watching the forum for a few months and finally on the weekend I joined the "yak'd" community as I bought myself a Thresher 140. As I am 6' 8" the selection process for a yak was as much about what I could comfortably fit into and so it took a few trips to various shops to sit in some kayaks. Also did a session with Rohan from East Coast Kayaking which was very helpful in terms of kayak basics (and he organised a test paddle for me). Anyway I am now able to get out on the water instead of gazing into the distance and watching others.

Did a first session in Port Melbourne yesterday for a couple of hours. No fish but a good try out for me and my yak.
First day out!

Welcome to the addiction.

Interesting yak there, not seen any of them around before.Wilderness have a good reputation for quality. Looks like a well laid out solid unit. I guess at 6'8" it would have been a challenge getting something to fit

The height makes loading and unloading easier though ;)
Live long, fish hard and hopefully catch something.

Use to be considered useful for hanging pictures, painting ceilings and changing light globes but with the change to LED's don't get so much calling for the last "skill" anymore. :D

Welcome to Vyak Mick,
Are you a Collinwood supporter with a name like Magpie Mick.
I got introduced to the sport & Forums by doing a course with Rohan at East Coast Kayak Sandringham a few years ago.
There were 12 on the course and at least 8 were from Vyak.
Keep an eye on the fishing trips threads.
Plenty of opportunity to meet others on the water.

Indeed the Magpies are my team. Not much joy in the past couple of years but as they say, there is always next year!
